World Doctors Association is the association of doctors from all over the world with mission to promoting health and monitoring branded over-the-counter medicines and food supplements.

Over-the-counter is the term used for medicines that can be bought in pharmacies and in other retail outlets without a prescription. Some of the medicines can only be sold in pharmacies and pharmacists are required to supervise their sales and ask questions before supplying them to customers.

Established in 1999, the association was founded to promote responsible consumer healthcare by collecting feedback from customers, conducting laboratory tests, spreading awareness, suggesting ban to the governments and controlling the advertising of the medicines through a code of advertising practice. This remains a core activity for the association.

For more than 6 years, WDA's research and policy development has focused on framing an effective approach for fast termination of health hazardous medicines.

One comprehensive definition of self-care is as:

"...the actions people take for themselves, their children and their families to stay fit and maintain good physical and mental health; meet social and psychological needs; prevent illness or accidents; care for minor ailments and long-term conditions; and maintain health and wellbeing after an acute illness or discharge from hospital."
